Hello doctor, I live in middle East. Since few months I have heavy hair fall. Few months ago same happened but when whether changed it stopped by its own. I used to take head bath everyday. Now reduced it to alternate days. One day after using oil and with diluted 'dove' shampoo. Other two days washing in plain water. I take head bath in night as I won't get time in morning for that. What are the best things I can do in terms of taking care of hair and avoid hair fall? Is it needed to take head bath everyday? Earlier I had dandruff issue, but now it's not there. I do workout at gym daily after that head use to be very sweaty. I allow that to dry before taking shower. On off days I apply oil for 1 hour and then wash it with diluted shampoo. When I comb, so much of hair falls and hair become dry as well as I reduced use of shampoo and conditioner. Which all food I need to have for better health of hair? Please help. Thanks Soumya.

Hello! Regularly shampoo the scalp hair with a normal shampoo and keep the hair clean. Do not change products frequently. Oiling the hair makes the hair soft and easy to comb. Few drops of coconut oil application weekly once or twice are sufficient. Avoid sharing caps/hair bands/ combs/helmet. Keep your combs and brushes clean and wash them regularly. Use a comb with widely spaced, blunt bristles. Comb gently superficially, without injuring the roots of the hair Avoid hot hair dryers and curlers. Avoid regular straightening the hairs or perming the hair or ironing the hairs as it leads hair damage hair fall. Eat adequate amount of protein. Your hair is made up mainly of proteins. Include skimmed milk, cottage cheese, lentils. Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin B are other important nutrients for great hair health. So include lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your daily diet. Exercise daily to keep yourself healthy inside out. Next important step is to follow good hair care - Oiling your hair with a mixture of oils like olive, sesame, coconut and castor oil keeps provides moisture to your hair and prevent them from drying and breakage. Once in a week apply a good hair mask. You can mix and prepare different types of masks using green tea, olive oil, milk, gooseberry, thyme, chamomile etc. Condition your hair using organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Rosemary tea once in a while.
