If you are sensitive to hot then most probably your tooth needs RCT and cap. Before that your dentist will take an x ray and do clinical exam to decide whether a simple filling will suffice or RCT/cap.

Your condition needs to be evaluated clinically as to determine whether the sensitivity is related to one specific tooth or region or entire arch. so go for proper consultation and plan accordingly. If sensitivity is present in entire mouth then shift to using any Anti-sensitivity toothpaste for 2 months. This would provide you temporary relief.

Hello Lybrate-user, sensitivity is sharp, shooting type of sensation in teeth on contact of extremely cold or hot food which usually lasts for a few seconds and disappears completely after that and re-occurs again on such stimulus. Treatment plan for sensitive teeth goes as follows: 1. You can use any commercially available desensitizing toothpastes such as colgate sensitive /sensodyne /Sensodent KF / Sensoform R/ Shy NM/ Vantej /Senquel F /Shy XT /Pepsodent pro sensitive (many more are available in market) as first line of treatment. If it reduces your sensitivity substantially you can continue brushing with toothpaste in long run to avoid further sensitivity. 2. If you don't get any relief from desensitizing toothpastes it indicates a more severe problem which will need further treatment like layering/coating the damaged tooth surface OR filling of the tooth if there is big cavity OR root canal treatment in extreme cases. Getting proper treatment leads to permanent relief in sensitivity problem. And you can eat and drink cold food items without getting jerks while eating or drinking. Regards
