sugar free chewing gums are good as mouth freshner sometimes. they also help you exercise your gums n jaw muscles. but sugar containing chewing gums will lead to decay n gum infection. frequent use of any chewing gums will lead to pain in jaw joint, reduced opening of mouth, dry mouth sometimes ulcers also. better leave the habit of chewing gums.

excess of anything is harmful. we suggest patients to have chewing gums to maintain adequate salivary flow as well as for exercise of muscles of chewing. but chewing them whole day may cause these muscles to get stressed up, you may start complaining of headach very often, also you may end up with tmj problems. also sugar containing gums may cause cavities. you can have 1-2 chewing gums (sugar free) a day.
