Hye, thanks for the query. Water intake exclusively will not help weight loss but taking good amount of water is essential when you eat healthy. Water intake depends on many factors like activity level, season, food intake, disease condition if any etc. Best way to ensure good intake of water is to sip on water through the day. You can be assured that you are taking enough water when the urine you pass is colourless (unless you are taking any medication or had fruits like beetroot). Also do not wait to be dehydrated and severely thirsty to have water. Ideally at least try to have at 2-3 liters of water per day (as long as you don't have any medical condition that needs restriction).
