Hi I'm a 35 year old female. I'm a diabetic patient. I read from Lybrate that lady's finger can reduce blood sugar level to an extent. But I heard that having lady's finger will increase the cholesterol level. Is that true?

No food by itself raises the blood cholesterol levels. It's the total intake and type, quality of fat ingested that determines your chol levels. Moreever, if the body does not get enough fats from the food, the liver produces chol to compensate, which many a times increases the chol levels.

Hi, as mentioned there are some reports suggesting that using ladies finger (okra) does help in reducing blood sugar, but these are only studies in rats in laboratory. So extrapolating that effect on to human being is not good. It is a good green vegetable, gives vitamins, potassium and fibers etc. But as a treatment for diabetes it is not supported by any clinical studies. One can consume it in good quantity because it is a good vegetable.
