Neutrophils are a type of wbc's and are a very important defense against most types of infection. When looking at your risk of getting an infection, doctors look at the number of neutrophils you have. A low neutrophil count is called neutropenia. The doctor may say you are neutropenic.----------but as I do not know about your child'ss overall blood cbc report, so it will be diffficult for me to comment upon the exact cause but one thing is sure that cause of neutropenia is weak defence system and it can be causesd due to many problems and the common being frequent viral infections--------------
