Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. It seems that your mother's problems are related to her lower back region, these kind of pains can happen because a nerve might be getting impinged due to which you can have pain running in legs, numbness, pin or needle prick sensations in legs etc. Also your mother's age is 74. Actually the best way to answer is to see what is her clinical examination like motor and sensory charting in lower limbs, and then see what mri shows. We can actually then correlate scientifically and prescribe medications. Otherwise we can start with some medications for neuropathic pain, gentle anti-inflammatory medications and intensive physical therapy and see how she responds initially. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
