My wife 50 years old suffering from sinusitis since 3 years, has also lost smelling power, she has been advised operation but without guarantee of regaining of smelling power. She is diabetic at present sugar level being 156 fasting, bp at 140/90 and thyroid tsh at 4.75. (residing at present at jammu). She will have to undergo thorough ent check up and may be some investigations like ct scan have to be done. If she is having some obstruction in the nasal cavity which is causing the problem with the sense of smell that can be corrected and she can get back the sense of smell. If there is no obstruction and the problem is only neurological then nothing much can be done except for a course of steroids. She may improve or she may not improve.
