If there was no trauma or injury to the back, and also if you didn't lift any heavy weight and the pain started, then it could be due to posture related or mechanical backache. You can use a hot water bag in your back for 10-15 min and then apply some ointment like nice gel. Eventually you need to strengthen your back muscles by exercising (simple exercises) like pelvic lifting, static back etc, also some of the yoga asanas are also good for back like bhujangasan etc.
