One non medicated stent was fixed in one of the arteries leading to heart nine years ago. Now there is no problem. Everything is all right. What is the life span of a non medicated stent? Whether let it remain inside or it should be removed out or it should be replaced? Please advise.

Dear sir, once a metallic stent is implanted inside your artery of heart it remains there for ever whether medicated or nonmedicated. How ever they do develop blockage over time. Which varies from person to person and other parameters such as diabetes, high bp, cholesterol, smoking etc. Some develop over a year some take 10 years but some never develop any significant blockage. It's less common with medicated stents. Once a stent is implanted it can't be and need not be taken out. It becomes part of your blood vessel. In the event of blockage repeat stenting or bypass can be done. If you are alright then you can carry on with your life and take your medicines regularly. Thank you.
