Hi I am 24 year female and had a pain in my right molar of the lower jaw from last 2-3 days. Approx 8-9 months before, I have taken the rct on the same molar due to cavity. It was painless till last 2or 3 days before. Please tell me why it's happening and should I consult the dentist or not and also within how many days. Thank you.

Hello a root canal treatment is done to relieve pain related to a decaying tooth. It?s normal to experience mild to moderate pain for a few days after a root canal. Root canal pain should decrease over time. There are many causes of root canal treated tooth to pain like reinfection of the previously treated root canal, overfilling of the root canal, missed canal etc. An infected root canal can usually be retreated, unless the root is cracked or the tooth has broken below the gum line. However treatment will depend on the cause of pain and will vary accordingly. Thorough clinical and radiographic examination of the concerned tooth is needed to evaluate the treatment plan. If you still experience pain after 8-9 months after root canal treatment, you should see the dentist.
