Hashimotos Thyroiditis and subsequent Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder . This is an auto immune condition. This means that your body's immune system attacks your own thyroid cells and might eventually destroy the cells. There are many causes which can precipitate this attack like a viral attack, trauma, post partum period, +ve family history, selenium deficiency etc. 
The treatment of hypothyroidism is thyroid hormone replacement
The treatment of Hashimoto's disease without hypothyroidism is only symptomatic. Once your TSH goes above 5 miu/ ml we need to start on treatment
