Good morning doctor, my son who is 3.5 years old suffering from cough for the past 10 months. We are giving him asthalin for cough, telekast 4 mg tab and a nasal spray. I would like to know about the treatment for allergic bronchitis and rhinitis for permanent cure. Whether he can come out of the disease permanently with homeo treatment. Thank you.

Hi lybrate-user, how likely your child will get well and stop having any further flares depends upon a few questions- does your son have any other allergies (including food allergy), any hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and eczema (atopic dermatitis). Do you or your husband suffer from asthma or had childhood asthma or other allergies. Even then most children grow out of asthma. It is important to give preventer medicines correctly in order to stop having further flares. Telekast is one such medicine. If he continues to have cough, a steroid inhaler can help in reducing inflammation and further flares, and thereby cough as well. That needs a thorough consultation as to his current situation, his previous history and medication use. The doctor will then also rule out any other causes that could be contributing to his cough persisting.

Both allergic rhinitis and bronchitis as the name suggests, are caused by allergies. It's an exaggerated reaction of the body of the susceptible person. Unfortunately, there is no "permanent cure" as such. The things causing allergies have to be avoided. Bedsheets and curtains to be changed regularly. Pollen and animal dander may be triggers. Ac to be serviced regularly. Treatment with modern medicine are of slightly longer duration. But with good compliance, the results are excellent. I cannot comment on use of alternative medicines.

Allergic disorders like rhinitis or bronchitis tend to be due to allergic tendency. Use can use precautionary measure to prevent them from occurring but can not permanently cure them.
