Hello doctor, I have one question with a health issue that makes me anxious and scared for some time. 3 years ago (summer 2016), me and my family visited norway for holiday, especially svalbard. It was a great and exciting time there and we bought a whole reindeer fur as souvenier. My question is, if is it possible to be infected by some disease just by physical contact with the pelt of the long dead animal? I am especially concerned about rabies, since I have read that rabies is occasionally present on the svalbard islands and I do not know the origin of the fur (but we have bought it in normal shop specialist with trading with furs of all kinds of wild animals). So is it possible to be infected by contacting the fur with my skin with some scratches and am I in danger and should seek the vaccination or is it a nonsense? Thank you very much for your answer, I know that it might sound crazy but I am quite concerned and want to know if I am in danger or not. Matej pasek I would prefer a response by email.
