My 85yo mother was given grilinctus syrup for dry cough without examination, the cough subsided but she developed fast laboured breathing due to lung congestion, is this due to syrup or anything else.

Dear lybrate-user, fast breathing is usually due to chest congestion. Kindly get a chest x ray & cbc esr done to confirm the diagnosis. You can upload the reports on Lybrate forum and seek further advice from a pulmonologist. Wishing speedy recovery.
