I am diagnosed with hypothyroid for last 10 years and I am taking 100 mg eltroxin tablets morning empty stomach. I am doing regular blood test once in 6 months however doctor still ask me to continue the same dosage. Is their any possibility to reduce the dosage slowly by way of life style modification and diet control. I am regular in exercise and diet control.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Please understand hypothyroidism is a hormone (Thyroxine secreted by thyroid gland) deficiency disorder. Since this hormone is required every day for multiple metabolic functions plus for normal functioning of brain, it has to be supplemented every day. There is no other treatment. Life style changes are not going to increase the secretion. Treatment is for life time. Dosage will depend upon TSH level. That should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. Thanks.
