It is a precancerous or before cancer condition which can develop into a cancer resolution. There are high chances for oral submucous fibrosis to develop into cancer provided the patient continuous to have the habit of tobacco chewing ,having sharp teeth in mouth ,compromised immune system and other general health reasons. Antioxidant medications ,steroid injections mainly stoppage of tobacco habit, adequate counselling to the patient ,good oral hygiene, nutrition helps in improving the condition.

It is condition characterised by stiffness of oral mucosa and progressive decreased opening of mouth due to tobacco exposure. Its malignant conversation rate is about 5.5 to 7.5 percent as per epidemiology survey in india.
