A type of kidney cancer, Wilms tumor generally affects children. The condition is unilateral in kind, which means that tumors are generally found only in one kidney. But bilateral cases of the cancer also occur, although they are rare. Wilms tumor is basically divided into two major types, as per their appearance under a microscope- tumor with favorable histology and tumor with unfavorable histology. Some symptoms that patients may suffer from are swelling in the abdominal area, appearance of a mass in the abdominal area, abdominal pain, fever and appearance of urine in blood. The exact cause for this type of kidney cancer is yet unknown to medical science.
HOW IS WILMS TUMOR DIAGNOSED?
About 5-10% of children suffering from Wilms tumor have multiple tumors.
