I am from Chennai, My son 9 years old, has peculiar problem in his heart and hearing the sound of his own heartbeat at rapid rate of 120 beats per second. Checked with Gen Physician for fever 20 days ago. Doctor has advised us to consult with cardiologist? I came across an article on heartbeat rate for kids upto 12 years is in the range of 80-120 per minute. His heart rate is faster and anyone can hear the sound of heartbeat without stethoscope Please advise us whether it is a normal or should have to consult a pediatrician or Cardiologist?

It is normal to have higher beats in children and ideally if you check with a cardiologist you can be sure and relax he is safe Children 3 to 4 years old: 80 to 120 beats per minute. Children 5 to 6 years old: 75 to 115 beats per minute. Children 7 to 9 years old: 70 to 110 beats per minute. Children 10 years and older, and adults (including seniors): 60 to 100 beats per minute.
