I have a sharp stabbing pain in the lower back, just above the hip and bit to the left of the base of the spine. It is not the typical back pain we usually have if we workout too much or anything. This just came out of nowhere and it refuses to go away. If I do any excercises then it just aggravates the pain and refuses to respond to any balms/ointments. What is the reason for this back pain ?

Hi, I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. Your pain can be due to muscle strain or it could be discogenic if it is originating from spine. You can try physical therapy and anti-inflammatory therapy for few days but if it persists then you will require a consultation from an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Email Id : akshaysaxena2004@yahoo.co.in
