My wife had cancer CA-GB with mets in lever just after 4-5 mm stone detected in gallbladder about 6 month before. She could not be operated for removals of gallbladder due to her increase in sugar level n high BP. That ultimately culminated in to ca-GB. She was given six rounds of chemotherapy and it was informed by oncologist that she had recovered to the extent of 90-95% n only cancer remained in gallbladder and about 2 cm in a place in lever. She was a RT oncologist n in place of removal of cancer part through surgery as promised earlier she went for Radio therapy and damaged the complete lever resulting in to jaundice after six month of her treatment which was in couraging earlier. She succumb to joindish in next three months which kept increasing and liver was damaged beyond recovery after RT. Is it not that the Doctor n hospital blame worthy for mistreatment in view of getting higher bill for doing heinous crime. Kanpur case.

Cancer of the gall bladder often infiltrates in to the liver, in which case we try to give neoadjuvant chemoradiation or neoadjuvant chemotherapy to try to reduce it in size hoping that it becomes operable and then plan for Surgical excision. If there was no response to the neoadjuvant therapy then it is not worth operating upon the tumor, in which case palliative radiation is given, which does not intend to cure the patient, but to prolong the survival of the patient. Gall bladder cancer with jaundice means terminal stage, which is generally due to progression of the disease. Radiotherapy to cause jaundice would have to be very high dose and given to the whole liver, which is usually not given. I can understand your loss, but sometimes the disease stays one step ahead of us, whatever we do and however advanced science becomes. About 20-25 years ago we did not even have the option of neoadjuvant chemotherapy to decrease the size of such cancers to make it curable for some at least. We have seen even early stage cancers comeback with a vengeance despite all the treatment. However the science is improving with time and the treatment and survival is improving. I hope when a day would come when we can cure cancer completely.
