My father has an eye operation on Tuesday 1 September. What should be the sugar level and blood pressure level? Please advise.

High sugar levels are associated with poor wound healing, increased chances of infections and has also adverse effect on vision due to its effect on retina. So fasting and random blood sugar shoulds b less than 100 n 160 respectively. Similarily high blood pressure has many preop intraop and postop complications. Most dreadful intraop being expulsive hemorrhage. Like blood sugar, blood ressure too has many retinal nd eye complications. So keep it in normal range around 130/80.

Ideally if your father is not diabetic, then his fasting blood sugar should be below 110mg% & ppbs- below 140mg%, but if he is diabetic then such tight sugar control is not adviced as the pt. May go into hypoglycemia hence it can be upto 120mg% - fbs and - 175mg% ppbs. As per the bp level, it should be below 140mmhg systolic & below 90mmhg diastolic.
