Hello doctor. I am 18 years old girl. Every now and then I feel stressed. I start crying without any reason and mostly during the night time. I am hyperactive during daytime but as the evening approaches I start feeling lonely, hopeless, anxious, DISTURBED. I am preparing for medical entrance and this is affecting my studies a lot. Please help me. I really need to do something or else I would have to repeat this year too.

Dear lybrate-user, From your question, it is unclear what kind of thoughts are making you feel anxious and disturbed. In the absence of specific details, I am assuming that you may be worried about the outcome of your entrance tests - whether or not you'll get through a good college or not? Whether you'll do well in life or not etc. The future and what is likely to happen in the future is mostly beyond our control but when we are too focused on it, thinking about what may or may not happen, what if things go wrong, what if things don't go the way I want etc - it leads to build up of anxiety. We just end up building up possible scenarios that send us in a place of worry, disturb our digestive processes, make us feel wound up and tensed. As a result we are sapped of vital energy and we find it difficult to focus on tasks at hand such as studies and that further adds to our sense of stress because we now start worrying that we are not studying as much as we should which will anyway have an impact on the future outcome. This becomes a vicious, self perpetuating cycle. I would suggest that you bring your focus back to the present and the efforts that you can put in here and now. These are definitely under your control and the more you are able to do well on this front, automatically it will have a positive effect on the future outcome as you would be well prepared and that would add to your sense of confidence when you go to give your tests. Imagine a scenario where instead of worrying, your energy was used to cover all your topics and practice a lot. Wouldn't that be great. Also allow your self periods of rest and entertainment breaks etc. Don't judge yourself too harshly if you don't achieve much on a particular day. Get back to your work the next day. Talk to some one if that helps or seek the help of a psychologist if required. All the best.
