In Pcos you need to have menstrual periods at least once in 2-3 months.First and foremost step is Lifestyle modifications like loosing weight at rate of 5-10% over a period of six months and maintain it by joining either a gym or do brisk walking daily.Besides cut down carbohydrates, sugar, sweets, rice ,refined products, canned stored products ,cola, coffee, oily spicy etc all need to be cut down Take plenty of fluids and seasonal fruits and vegetables these measures will help you to regularise your periods Medicines are given depending upon as whether you are married or not.If you are married then you need to get periods induced with progestrone only for 5 days and plan accordingly and need not to take pills continously If you are unmarried still you need not to be on continous pills AS they have side effects if taken long term so should be taken intermittently and in a planned manner and not blindly
