My grand mother all sudden lost the clarity in her speech. Any one who is familiar with such cases please suggest the duration of treatment.

The modality of treatment depends upon the location and size of clot. Anti coagulant medications are given and repeated MRI are done to see if the size of clot decreased or increased. And if size of clot is big and obstructing the blood flow. Surgery is performed in which a catheter is inserted to break down and remove the clot. Consult your treating doctor for the possible outcomes.

Hi lybrate-user. Most of the time (for all age groups), whether the brain clot is surgically treated or not, the speech problem still remains. It?s the fact. Please go ahead and fix the clot. But don?t expect her speech to be fixed just by fixing her clot. Clot fixing and Speech recovery are 2 different things. Just because her speech was impaired because of the clot, doesn?t mean her speech will be alright after fixing the clot. But still you need to make sure that she can communicate with words or any other way possible. If she is still trying and struggling to speak, please consult a Speech Therapist asap. We can help her fix her speech problem through speech therapy by recovering it back. It takes a particular period of time and can also help you as a family to plan ahead on how to engage her in conversations with people instead of she not communicating anything. It is her right to communicate and she can. For more info, contact please.
