Why are sugars added to foods? Are sugars safe to eat? How does the body use sugars?

Sugars available naturally are good for health, such as the sugars you get from fruits, rice etc. However, ready made sugar or raffinated sugar which you get in shops and from factory made products are highly undesirable and tend to have bad effects on body and metabolism. It's recommended to avoid such sugars, having little amount is okay, if you can excercise the extra calories. Let me know if you have any queries.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. All starchy food that we eat like rice, chapati, roti (jowar or bajra or makai), other cereals like millets, potato, beet root, sweet potato and sugar as well as jaggery get converted to glucose after digestion. So whether one takes a roti or rice or sugar everything is converted to glucose and absorbed. Sugar is added or eaten because people like sweet taste. Thanks.
