Vitiligo can be inherited but it is not a rule. Vitiligo sometimes follows a skip generation pattern which means if a grandparent has vitiligo the chances of it in grand children are more. It is important to rule out any associations of vitiligo otherwise the disease itself in isolation is harmless to everybody. It can be visible at any age right from 3 to 6 months after birth to a much older age.
