CAN INSULIN RESISTANCE BE REVERSED? When I went for a regular check my gp saw the thickening on neck area and ordered a fasting insulin test it was 26. I haven't gone back to him yet. By googling this I have seen insulin resistance as the cause and also if I go without a meal for 6 hours I get sweaty and tired and crave food. My fasting bg is 78 and pp is 129.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The lesion "thickening on the neck" is Acanthosis Nigricans, which is a dark red discoloration on the skin in the back of the neck region. This occurs due to development of resistance to insulin. This results in extra insulin secretion from islets of Langerhans. Extra insulin is produced because normal amount is unable to reduce raised blood glucose level. This leads to hyperglycemia and glycosuria and if not controlled then to diabetes. If a person is in pre-diabetic stat e, then regular exercise, wight control and strict diet restriction can help in reducing insulin resistance. Thanks.
