Need not worry about a small cyst as yours During the normal monthly menstrual cycle, one of two types of functional cysts may develop: A follicular, or simple, cyst occurs when the small egg sac (follicle) on the ovary does not release an egg, and it swells with fluid either inside the ovary or on its surface. The cortical cyst refers to a very common type of kidney cyst. Because it is located at the renal cortex, it is called the cortical cyst. It is a fluid-filled sac growing in the outer area of the kidneys. You might have one, or you might have several, and they can affect just one or both kidneys.
