I am on Diamicron Mr. 30 mg one tablet a day for last 7 years. I was diagnosed with T2DM in 2006. After 4 years of trying with weight and exercise, when the sugar levels did not improve to normalcy, I was started with Diamicron Mr. 30 mg once a day in the year 2010. Since then, I am on the same medicine for last 7 years. My current FBS is in the range of 110-125 and PPBS is in the range of 140-160 and HbA1c is in the range of 5.8 to 6.4. Lipids, renal and liver function tests are within normal range. My question is: Am I on the right medicine form the long term perspective? Should I not Metformin XR regime for better long term management? Diamicron Mr. probably can be used when Metformin stops working. Please advise. My BMI is also less than 22.

Diamicron is good drug and can be used with metformin and your HbA1C is good ( in a diabetic less than 7 is acceptable It is not easy to get less than 6 unless you start insulin also ) and as the FBS is high you can ass metformin also and do more exercises and monitor regularly
