What are the side effects of sugar tablets glimepiride 1 mg and metformin 500 mg. I am taking them from last 2 years .some people told me that it has very bad effects on kidney. My average sugar of last 3 months is 144.

Glycomet only has metformin. No glimepiride. Both the drugs good for diabetes. None of the drug cause kidney problem. In kidney problem we take some special care in prescribing metformin.

At this young age and of an athletic, you can be fittest person if you decide to switch to herbal support of DM. I will not say to stop your current med now. Difference in glycomet gp-1 and glycomet 500 what are conditions when glimepiride and metformin to be taken individual or as combination, if sugar in the range of 140 in fasting and 180-200 after lunch can we take glycomet 500 alone.

Dear Lybrate user, glimepiride stimulates betacells to secrete insulin. Metformin is supposed to reduce insulin resistance and slow down glucose absorption from the intestine. Usually both these are used together to control increased blood glucose. In newly diagnosed patients metformin alone is used. In some both drugs are used together. Which drug to take for a particular level can be decided by the treating doctor.

What is maximum dosage of metformin for type 2. Age 64. Weight 91 kg, height 172cm. I take 1000 mg sr bd. I also take pioglitazone 30 in morning, sitagliptin 50 mg. Bd, glynase 10 mg morning and recently started insulin 10 +15 units per day to bring bs under control. Idea is to avoid pioglitazone.

Mr metformin can be taken up to 2500 mg per day. But 100 mg is also a high dose only. If it is not causing any gastro intestinal side effects then no problem. It is really good that you have started on insulin because looking at amount of drugs that you are taking, it is necessary for you to shift to insulin. By doing self monitoring of blood sugar daily you can increase the insulin dosage every alternate day till you reach target fasting level. It is good to reduce or take away pioglitazone.

I was being treated with combination of metformin, pioglitazone and other drugs since 15 yrs. My HBA1c, Fasting, PP was normal in the last month. But for some other reason I had to change my doctor. And he stooped all the previous drugs and started OXRA 10 with metformin. Noe my Fasting, PP level are increasing every week. It is now 230, 270. What should I do?

The glucose levels mentioned are definitely high. It appears that present (new) treatment is not suiting you. Since no details are mentioned in terms of drugs and dosage, it is difficult to comment. If the previous treatment was giving good results with better glucose control, what was the reason for changing? I have been taking glitaris m7. 5/500 one tablet after dinner for sugar control for more than 10 years. This has been banned again in india. My endocrinologist is of the opinion that I should not stop pioglitazone (the reason, it facilitates utilization of insulin in body cells). Secondly, I am taking it in low intensity (7.5 mg). My questions are the following. 1. Does it have harmful effect? 2. Is the side effect related to quantity of pioglitazone one is taking? Meaning, is to safe to take it in low amount as in my case? 3. Though this tablet is banned, glitaris 7.5 mg is available in market (exclusive pioglitazone). Can I take this with one additional tablet glycomet 500 (metformin)? If yes, 4. If combination tablet glitaris m7. 5/500 is unsafe (because it is banned) then how the same in separate form, glitaris 7.5 + glycomet 500, can be safe?

As told by your endocrinologist pioglitazone does help insulin action by reducing resistance to its action. The combination has been banned because it is considered as irrational to have certain "fixed dose" combinations. Because it is difficult to make dosage adjustment in asuch a combination. I have been found diabetic from one year. I consulted a MD and he prescribed metformin+ glimepiride tabs. After two months he prescribed only metformin SR 500. From then I am using them. After first report I never go beyond fasting 110 and PP 130 in several tests. I quit sweet taste from a year. My question is can I consume any fruit in some small quantity? Is there any problem if I drink tea with sugar occasionally?

Tea can be taken by cutting down half amount of sugar, which you generally use.
