Krutujaji, Thanks for the query.
If on treatment then TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free fro all the symptoms of hypothyroidism.Since your TSH is 13 mU/L, it shows that hypothyroidism is not controlled at all. This means thyroxine dosage has to increase from the present one. Then after tstarting the increased dose, TSH should be checked after 6 weeks to see if there is necessary change. Thanks

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
When on treatment ideally TSH should be maintained < 3 mU/L. Hence current dose of 125 mcg is fine. It should be continued. To be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism it is essential to maintain TSH < 3 mu/L. Once well stabilised you can check TSH one in 6 months to a year. But do not make frequent changes in Thyroxine dosage. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query.
Madam please understand the condition hypothyroidism occurs when one's thyroid gland is not able to synthesise adequate amount of thyroxine (t4 hormone). This hormone is required for most of the metabolic activities in our body. If it is not available in adequate quantities then tsh level goes up, plus patient develops a number of symptoms like weight gain, slow hear rate, tiredness, early fatigue, menstrual problems, dry skin, dry hair, hair fall, anxi...more

Mr Parag Mittal, Thanks for the query.
Hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disorder. Thyroid gland which is supposed to produce that hormone is either not producing enough or nil. Since this is required for a number of vital metabolic functions in our body on day to day basis, plus for normal functioning of brain, maintaining body temperature etc, it has to be made available every day for life time. In other words, treatment has to go on for life time. There are hardly any sid...more

Hello, thanks for the query.
Madam hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine, produced by thyroid gland), deficiency disorder. This hormone is required for multiple metabolic functions in the body and for normal functioning of brain. Hence needs to be supplemented every day. With treatment tsh should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l. At which level most of the symptoms are in check. You can not stop the treatment, as it has to be a lifelong one. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Usually hypothyroidism seen during pregnancy goes away after delivery. Therefore if TSH is normal after few weeks of pregnancy then there is no need to take thyroxine tablets. TSH should be with in the specified range. Thanks.

Hello, at 0.19 milli units/l, is just below the lower limit. If the patient is feeling fine, there are no specific complaints then there is no need to do anything. However, if there are any symptoms suggesting hyperthyroid activity, then there may be a need to redcue the dose of thyroxine, by about 12.5 mcg per day. Then check tsh levels after 6 weeks. Thanks for the question.

It's not so easy to titrate your thyroxine dosage without knowing the in's and outs which requires at least 5 years of medical knowledge. Get in touch with a doc to decide rather than messing with yourself.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
TSH 0.005 mU/L is is quite low. It can lead to drug induced hyperthyroidism. Therefore, dosage of Thyroxine needs to be reduced. It is better to reduce 25 mcg per day, then check TSH after 6 weeks. Thanks.

Kantiji, Thanks for the query.
On treatment with thyroxine, one should be able to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in control. Therefore, your present dose appears to be inadequate. Better to increase by 12.5 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks, if level still more than recommended, then the dose may have to be increased again. Thanks.
