About Dexacort N Eye/Ear Drops

Used to reduce bacteria in the intestines, Dexacort N Eye/Ear Drops is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It works by destroying sensitive bacteria by cutting of the production of certain proteins needed for them to survive. Keeping this in mind, it is used to stave off the risk of infections during intestinal surgeries. It can also be used along with a certain diet to treat hepatic encephalopathy.

Dexacort N Eye/Ear Drops is not to be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or to other aminoglycosides such as gentamicin. If you have bowel ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease or any intestinal obstruction, the drug is not advised to be taken. Medicines like penicillin and fludarabine and can interfere with its functioning.

Dexacort N Eye/Ear Drops is to be taken orally with or without food. Do not use it for more than two weeks unless advised by your doctor. Continue using it for the full course of treatment to clear off the infection, even if you feel better.

To keep away any side effects, it may be taken at the lowest possible dosage and for the shortest period. Some of the side effects include stomach cramps, severe diarrhea, nausea and bloody stool.

    How does this medication work?

    Dexacort N Eye/Ear Drops is an Aminoglycosides. It binds itself to 30S-subunit proteins and also 16S rRNA. It attaches irreversibly to a total of four nucleotides of 16S rRNA and one protein S12 amino acid. This causes interference when it comes to decoding the site.
