.Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland which starts and presents as hyperthyroidism which indicates an overactive thyroid later leads to hypothyroidism which indicates a slow thyroid. the treatment is differnt and often requires a specialist.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), is an autoimmune disease, causing lymphocytic infiltration of thyroid gland plus there are anti bodies produced by our own immune cells against thyroid peroxidase (anti tpo abs). Hashimoto is autoimune condition where body produces antibodies against thyroid gland enzymes. Iodine is raw material for thyroid hormones. But when manufacturing unit is getting destroyed it won't help.
Final product is t3 t4 so supplementing final product is treatment of choice. It will be life long.

Mr Mukesh, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease, where there are anti bodies formed against thyroxine secreting cells, resulting in deficiency of thyroxine and hypothyroidism. In this condition Iodine has no role. Treatment is to supplement thyroxine from outside as tablets.

Mr. Lybrate-user, hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht) is an autoimmune disease, with lymphatic infiltration of thyroid gland. It becomes firm or globular. There are anti bodies produced against thyroid peroxidase enzyme (anti tpo ab) which destroy thyroxine secreting cells resulting in hypothyroidism. Treatment is to give thyroxine tablets. Iodine has no role in the treatment.
In fact one of the causes is supposed to be taking extra iodine through iodinated salt.
