Almox 250 MG Tablet DT
As a penicillin antibiotic, Almox 250 MG Tablet DT treats bacterial infections. It interferes with the synthesis of the cell walls in bacteria and stops it from growing. This is used to treat infections of the lungs and airways, skin, middle ear, sinuses, and the urinary tract.
It also treats conditions like tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, and gonorrhoea. This medication when used with an antibiotic clarithromycin, it treats stomach ulcers. You should not use it if you are allergic to any penicillin based antibiotic.
This medication can make birth control pills less effective, so ask your doctor about using non-hormonal birth control to prevent pregnancy during the treatment. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
To make sure this medication is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have:
- Asthma, liver or kidney disease
- History of diarrhoea caused by taking antibiotics
- Any food or drug allergies
- Taking any medicines
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. They are available in liquid form, as chewable tablets and extended-release tablets. Some forms of this medicine may be taken with or without food. Dosage is as per doctor’s prescription and it varies according to age, medical condition, and severity of the condition.
Symptoms of penicillin overdose include neuromuscular hypersensitivity (agitation, hallucinations, asterixis, encephalopathy, confusion, and seizures) and electrolyte imbalance with potassium or sodium salts, especially in renal failure.
Hemodialysis may be helpful to aid in the removal of the drug from the blood, otherwise most treatment is supportive or symptom directed.
Take entire prescription, even if you are feeling better. Take at equal intervals around-the-clock; may be taken with milk, juice, or food. You may experience nausea or vomiting (small frequent meals, frequent mouth care, sucking lozenges, or chewing gum may help).
If diabetic, drug may cause false tests with Clinitest® urine glucose monitoring; use of glucose oxidase methods (Clinistix®) or serum glucose monitoring is preferable. This drug may interfere with oral contraceptives; an alternate form of birth control should be used.
How long is the duration of effect?The effect of this medicine lasts for an average of 1.5 to 2 hours after onset of action.
What is the onset of action?The effect of this medicine can be observed within 1-2 hours of administration.
Are there any pregnancy warnings?This medicine is not known to cause any harm to the fetus.
Is it habit forming?No habit forming tendencies have been reported.
Are there any breast-feeding warnings?This medicine is safe to use during breastfeeding.
Does this affect kidney function?Depending on the severity of the renal impairment, dosage of the medicine should be modified. Dosing interval in renal impairment:
- Clcr 10-50 mL/minute: Administer every 12 hours.
- Clcr <10 mL/minute: Administer every 24 hours.
- Dialysis: Moderately dialyzable (20% to 50%) by hemo- or peritoneal dialysis; approximately 50 mg of amoxicillin per liter of filtrate is removed by continuous arteriovenous or venovenous hemofiltration (CAVH); dose as per Clcr <10 mL/minute guidelines.
Does this affect liver function?Caution must be taken in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment might be needed. Kindly consult your doctor before taking this medication.
Is It safe with alcohol?Alcohol can be taken with Almox 250 MG Tablet DT, as no significant harmful side effects are observed.
Is it safe to drive while on this medicine?It is found that this medication may affect the patient alertness due to the side effects which it may cause, thus suggested to avoid driving if taking this medicine.

DoxycyclineUsage of this medication with Doxycycline should be avoided and usage of other antibiotics should be reported to the doctor.
MethotrexateUsage of this medication with Methotrexate or other chemotherapy medicines should be reported to the doctor. The levels of Methotrexate in the body along with symptoms of toxicity should be closely monitored while both these medicines are taken.
WarfarinUsage of this medication with Warfarin should be reported to the doctor. The clotting time should be monitored promptly. Symptoms like increased bleeding, swelling, dizziness and weakness should be reported immediately.
Ethinyl EstradiolUsage of this medication with Ethinyl Estradiol decreases the effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills, which might result in unplanned pregnancies.

MononucleosisThe condition should be reported to the doctor before taking this medication so that proper substitute can be prescribed.
ColitisThis medication should be discontinued if severe diarrhea occurs. Patients having a history of Colitis should be monitored closely.
Renal DiseasesThis medication should be given after making adjustments in the dosage. The kidney function should be periodically monitored especially if the dosage is for a longer period of time. Suitable dose adjustments are to be made if a patient is on hemodialysis.
