Snoring is caused due to some kind of throat or nasal blockage. Extreme snoring can be a problem and it often leads to issues like sleep apnoea too. An ENT would do your throat and nose examination to check for the root cause of snoring. There are multiple methods available to treat the same. Some of these include natural remedies while there are other procedures like surgery for snoring treatment too, which is referred to as somnoplasty. The treatment is devised only after understanding your current health scenario.
If a surgery is suggested to stop snoring, then the duration of the surgery ranges for about 30-40 minutes. Tissues of the uvula and soft palate are softened. It is a minor surgery and usually you would be discharged the same day or the next day. In other cases, the doctor would use a snoring mouthpiece or even a similar device inside the mouth. Doing so helps in treating the issue of snoring and prevents the noise.
After the snoring mouthpiece / snoring surgery has been done, you would be able to resume regular life. In fact, when you sleep, you would not be bothering anyone else with your loud snoring. This will also help you sleep better as sometimes snorers tend to have sleep apnoea issues too. There are usually no restrictions imposed after the surgery and you should not experience any kind of discomfort.
