The Hepatitis C virus causes hepatitis C disease, and it primarily affects the liver. They do not impact immediately and take years to develop. A fully developed hepatitis C infection can lead to liver cancer, and liver failure and inflammation. In many cases, the virus stays for a short duration, and in such situations, it is called the acute hepatitis C . However, in about 20% of the cases, the infection develops into a long-term complication - a condition known as chronic hepatitis C. It is one of the contagious diseases and can get transmitted quickly when a person gets in contact with an infected person. Hepatitis C causes can be due to sharing the same injection when using illegal drugs, unchecked blood transfusion and using unsterilized tattoo equipment. Hepatitis C symptoms are dormant most of the times and people will not be aware of it. Hepatitis C symptoms, however, includes tiredness, joint pains and sore muscles, and a tendency of weakness. Hepatitis C test is done by a simple blood evaluation, and a Hepatologist has to be consulted immediately if the condition is found positive. A biopsy of the liver should also be further done to rule out liver cancer. Hepatitis C Treatment is very limited, and antiviral medicines are administered to take care of the disease. The medications do not work for everyone, and it depends on how much the liver is affected. Self-treatment and taking care of oneself by avoiding alcohol and certain medicines and drugs would be the best treatment for Hepatitis C.
