What is the mean of elevated liver enzymes. What is the cause of this & how is it serious. Pls advice.

MD, MBBS
General Physician, Gurgaon
Elevated liver enzymes means that your liver is affected (depending on levels) for which here can be many reasons - like side effects of your anti diabetic or other medicines, or if you take alcohol, etc. So if you have your recent blood reports, I suggest a consultation in detail with a diabetologist physician asap.

My mother is 51 years old. She is intermittently getting pain in the lever area. Primary diagnosis shown fatty lever. Lever area is also little bit swollen. Consulted a local physician, we were told it is quite natural and don't have to worry. However, my mother says she is still feeling pain sometimes and the frequency is not often. Please find the below Liver Function Tests beyond normal range and suggest -ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE = 111.81 U/serum GLOBULIN = 3.8 gm/dL.

Try bland diet without much oil/ Spices/ Pickles/ Papad. Avoid Tea /Coffee. Take fresh juice and avoid packed juices which contain Preservatives. Eat Breakfast/Lunch/ Dinner at regular time. Tension produce more acid in stomach. Take cold milk. Make reclining bed (head end of bed raised to 30 degree by placing blanket).Sleep on your left side. Acid will not regurgitate to your food pipe

Seroesis and liver swelling due to which swelling on feet & other part of body.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist,
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Liver cirrhosis leads to low protein levels in the body as a result of which body retains fluid and swelling occurs. Management is based upon control of the primary cause which liver issue, so my opinion would be to meet up with a gastroenterologist and follow his advice on it. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards.

Liver abscesses form usually in young males who frequently have alcohol history . Treatment depends on the extent of the liver abscess , location and symptoms of the patient . It can be treatment by oral medication , may require percutaneous drainage or may even require surgery in more advanced disease . After drainage of the abscess , the patient recovers very quickly on clinical basis but lesion may take time to resolve on Ultrasound

Kidney stones treatment depends on the types and size of stone, most kidney stones won't require invasive treatment. You may be able to pass a small stone by: drinking water. Drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts (1.9 to 2.8 liters) a day may help flush out your urinary system. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, drink enough fluid mostly water to produce clear or nearly clear urine. Pain relievers. Passing a small stone can cause some discomfort. To relieve mild pain, according to your medical history I may prescribe pain relievers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen or naproxen sodium. Medical therapy. I am a doctor and renal (kidney) dietitian who will aslo prescribe a customized diet plan and medications to help pass your kidney stone quickly and with less pain. Do reply back for private consultation for a detailed treatment plan including dietary therapy.
