From childhood I am suffering from throat infection. I have also operated my tonsils but still after 5 years I have frequent throat infection so my question is that I am a frequent user os antibiotics medicine and recently I came to know that antibiotics can cause mental problems and in my case I am also feel depressed from childhood some times I also consult a psychiatrist so is there any possibility of linking of these two problems.

Hello there is nothing to get depressed about stop panicking. Repeated throat infections even after tonsillectomy could be due to infections of back of throat we call it as pharyngitis. If you have any sinus issues then phlegm falling down back of your throat constantly will lead to throat infection also. Get the nose and sinus checkup done. Do not keep using lot of antibiotics as it will lead to resistance than no drugs will help. Do warm salt water gargling that will help. Get a throat swab done for culture & sensitivity done will help to know which drugs you will be sensitive. Avoid antidepressants. Antibiotics don't cause depression. Start doing yoga breathing exercises meditation for depressed feelings. Take care.

There are many other causes of throat pain. So everytime your throat pains don't pop in antibiotics. Go to ent surgeon get thorough check up, get correct diagnosis and get it treated. General precautions for frequent throat pain are stop smoking if you do. Stop screaming if you do. Strictly avoid spicy fried chilled junk food. Gargles with warm water frequently. Finally antibiotics doesn't cause mental problems but confirm with your psychiatrist about particular antibiotics you take.
