I am 59 years old and suffering with osteoarthritis for the last 25 years. My left knee is more affected and doctors are advising me for knee replacement. I tried all kind of therapy for curing my problem but no improvement appears. Please suggest me what to do. Should I go for knee replacement or is there any hope to get relief from this problem.

Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Please tell me duration of pain and what are aggravating factors? how much distance can you walk and what is the analgesic requirement to carry out activities of daily routine? what medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. I also need to see your latest knee x rays so that I know what grade of arthritis are we dealing with on your case? if it is a very advanced case of degenerative arthritis with flexion/varus deformities, then you might be better with getting a replacement done but I will need to look at your x rays (latest) before suggesting you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
