My throat is swollen up. My sister said it may be tonsils. Please tell me what is tonsils? What are the symptoms and causes of tonsils? Now how I prevent tonsils?

Tonsils are swollen glands in the throat which may seen using tongue depressor which will allow us to see the back side of tongue by opening our oral cavity. They seen on either side tongue which appears reddish swollen. They irritation, pain and difficulty while having food. Commonly seen in childrens who has taken cold drinks ice creams etc. So please consult near by ent surgeon to confirm.
