Hello, hcg is given in order for follocles to rupture and release the egg. This happens roughly 24-36 hr after taking hcg. Hcg needs to be given when follicle is of 20 mm size when letrozole is taken for follicular development. If given when follicle is small, it does not work.

Hcg doesn't cause growth of follicles. It should be given when follicles grow upto 20 mm to trigger ovulation.
