My wife given alkasol 2 ml 3 doses morning and evening to our 3 yes kid mistakenly in place of ascoril, cough syrup. I hope its not a big problem. Kindly help us relieving our tension of the same. Thanks in advance.

Dear lybrate-user its not good to give such medications to kids. Kindly keep the medications for kids in seperate boxes and never use anything thats outside the box for them. There are many side effects for this syrup and immediately report to your pediatritian about the same. Do not imagine everything will be fine but make sure everything will be fine for the kid. The most commonly reported side-effects of alkasol syrup are stomach cramps, flatulence, diuresis, tiredness, mood swings, anxiety, and overdosage or too rapid administration can cause metabolic alkalosis especially in renal impairment. The following is a list of possible side effects that may occur from the use of alkasol syrup. This is not a comprehensive list. These side-effects are possible, but do not always occur. Some of the side-effects may be rare but serious. Consult your doctor if you observe any of the following side-effects, especially if they do not go away. Stomach cramps flatulence diuresis tiredness, mood swings anxiety overdosage or too rapid administration can cause metabolic alkalosis especially in renal impairment abdominal cramping diarrhea gastrointestinal ulceration deficiency of potassium in blood alkasol syrup may also cause side-effects not listed here.
