Hi. Nowadays amalgam fillings are rarely used. Amalgam fillings require proper/ ideal cavity formation and it cannot be given in every case. The most common thing which an amalgam filling causes is the discolouration of that particular tooth. Cost will vary from 500-1500, which will depend upon the clinic and place.

Amalgam has been used for decades but due to an active ingredient Mercury it's not used much now cost is domain of treating.

Amalgam is the best filling material but since it contains mercury we as doctor avoid it and secondly because of the mercury the colour of the tooth will be in silver so it may look annoying and now a days you get the same strength in veneer filling.

Not sure about the cost as we don't do it. Cons 1) it will outlast your teeth life 2) in case of extreme load, cz of its strength, teeth will break while this remains intact 3) constantly erodes in the mouth and gets into the body. Can cause cancer 4) doesn't bind with the teeth so there is always a gap between the filling and teeth which can cause secondary caries 5) expands with time which further leads to gap 6) needs excessive cutting off teeth for filling 7) looks ugly 8) causes sensitivity deep filling as it's a better conductor of heat 9) more techniques sensitive 10) obsolete and no longer used by majority of dentist.
