for nda medicals they count contact points. Their criteria is 28 contact points ... meaning you should have 28 upper and lower teeth touching when your mouth is closed.. cavity filled teeth are accepted as long as they touch upper teeth when closed. your decayed teeth needs to be checked for the extent of decay and if it can be restored using root canal and cap to create a contact point.
