Sensations of spinning and spells of dizziness are experienced in vertigo. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, increasing age, accumulation of fluid in the inner ear and infections in the nerves of the inner ear are the causes for vertigo. Medications such as prochlorperazine and antihistamines are used in treating the disorder. Surgery may be required to treat severe cases.
