Taeniasis is an infection that occurs in the intestines, and is parasitic in nature, caused by adult tapeworms. The reason behind this infection is eating of raw or undercooked pork or beef. Usually, the symptoms do not show properly and are almost negligible. Due to this, the patient may not even know that he or she has this infection. However, symptoms when present include digestion problems, sudden weight loss, blockage of the intestines and pain. The patient may also experience discomfort in the area surrounding the anus if segments of the worm, or eggs are expelled through the stool.
HOW IS TAENIASIS DIAGNOSED?
Taeniasis is more likely to occur in those that have weak immune systems, and are unable to combat the infection.
