Premenstrual swelling of breasts is a part of the premenstrual syndrome, also known as PMS. Non cancerous lumps form in the mammaries prior to the menstrual cycle every month and the swelling subsides immediately after it begins. It is not painful in most cases and can be lessened with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. However, in case of persistence of swelling well after the period has begun, medical attention is a must.
