Transverse myelitis is a condition which causes swelling of the spinal cord, as it affects the material that insulates nerve cell fibers. This condition may lead to easy injury across the length of the spine. The symptoms of this condition include pain and discomfort, sensory problems, weakness and in severe cases it can also cause paralysis of muscles and faulty bowel movements. Transverse myelitis can also lead to immune system disorders and infections that affects the tissues. Treatment for this condition is possible through anti-inflammatory drugs, medication for pain relief and rehabilitative therapy. Partial recovery is possible, but if one suffers from a highly complicated case of Transverse myelitis then consequences are more severe.
