There is a group of hamstring muscles which run along the back of one's thigh. Hamstring strain is a condition where a person feels a strain or a pull on one of those muscles. It is caused because of overstretching the muscle due to any strenuous physical exercise. A popping or tearing feeling at the back of the thigh, swelling, bruising and/or pain are the symptoms of this condition. In order to improve/treat a hamstring strain, an ice pack should be applied, Compression bandages should be worn, the leg should be kept raised over a cushion while sitting or sleeping. Medications recommended by doctors should be taken.
